Monthly Debit Ordinary

Columbian's Monthly Debit Ordinary (MDO) plans are whole life insurance policies designed for people who buy small amounts of insurance and may need to have their premiums collected by an agent.

  • MDO Whole Life has premiums payable for the lifetime of the insured. This plan is available for issue ages 0 - 85.
  • MDO 20 Payment Life has premiums payable for 20 years from the date of issue. This plan is available for issue ages 0 - 60.
  • MDO Life Paid Up at 65 has premiums payable to age 65. This plan is available for issue ages 0 - 55.

All three plans provide protection for the lifetime of the insured.  Policies are available with face amounts as low as $5,000 for ages 0 - 49 and $2,500 for ages 50 and above. The maximum issue amount is $15,000 for all ages.

The wide variety of riders available make it easy to customize the coverage to fit the needs of most families:

  • The Accidental Death Benefit Rider provides an additional death benefit equal to the face amount of the base policy, payable for accidental death of the insured while the rider is in effect. If injury causing death is sustained while the insured is a passenger in a public transit vehicle or a school bus, the accidental death benefit is doubled.
  • The Children's Insurance Rider provides level term insurance on all eligible children to age 25, including natural born children, stepchildren and legally adopted children of the primary insured. Children becoming eligible after the rider is issued are automatically covered as long as they are within issuable ages.
  • The Convertible Level Term Rider provides level term coverage on the primary insured to age 65. This rider is not available in New York (see Other Insured Rider for level term coverage on the primary insured in New York).
  • The Decreasing Term Rider provides annual decreasing term insurance on the primary insured for 20 years. This rider is not available in New York.
  • The Other Insured Rider provides level term coverage on the primary insured and/or the spouse until the rider insured's age 65. This rider is available in New York only.
  • The Spouse Term Rider provides level term coverage on the spouse of the primary insured to the spouse's age 65. This rider is not available in New York (see Other Insured Rider for level term coverage on the spouse of the primary insured in New York).
  • The Waiver of Premium Rider waives payment of premiums after six months of total and continuous disability, if the disability occurs while the rider is in effect.

Caring Solutions*

With Caring Solutions' unique design, we can build a plan to include up to four adults and all eligible children in one policy. Caring Solutions is available in face amounts from $20,000 to $99,999 and can include the following riders:

  • The Accelerated Death Benefit Rider allows the policyowner to elect to receive a 50% advance on the base policy death benefit if the insured is diagnosed with a terminal condition and a life expectancy of 12 months or less (24 months in states where required). Receipt of the accelerated death benefit may affect eiligibility for public assistance programs and may be taxable.
  • The Accidental Death Benefit Rider pays an additional benefit equal to the face amount of the policy, up to a maximum of $250,000, for accidental death.
  • The Children's Term Insurance Rider provides level term insurance on all eligible children to age 25, including natural born children, stepchildren and legally adopted children of the insured. Children becoming eligible after the rider is issued are automatically covered as long as they are within the issuable ages.
  • The Level Term to Age 65 Rider provides the primary insured with additional level term insurance to age 65.
  • The Other Insured Rider provides level term coverage to age 65 for up to three additional insureds in whom the policyowner has an insurable interest.
  • The Waiver of Premium Rider waives premiums if the insured is totally disabled for six months or more.

Premiums are payable to age 90, but your agent can help you plan ahead and achieve a paid-up policy in just 20 years by using the guaranteed cash values.
